A worthy pursuit
For this blog post i thought i would share some things I’ve learnt from doing my Podcast with some world class performers.
A worthy pursuit.
I was doing a podcast yesterday morning with Ben Alexander, a former Wallabies Prop and start up founder for a nutrition tracking app called Alfred (a man i have admired for many years). Ben not only walked the path that is playing International Rugby for a long period of time, he also did it in the hardest position. Lately he has turned his energy (pun intended Benny) towards the even harder world of being a start up founder. I know a little bit about both these worlds. And whilst i never played at Bens level what i know with a great deal of certainty is that you can not walk either of those paths unless you absolutely believe that you are doing something worthwhile. It’s just too hard to last the distance if you aren’t all in on it. Ben was incredibly pumped up talking about Alfred and I’m absolutely certain he has chosen another worthwhile pursuit.

A growth mindset.
Simon Cron does continued education every year, so does Pat Lam. Pat just won English Premiership coach of the year. He is always looking at ways to improve. Tatafu Polota-Nau is doing a MBA and has been doing coaching courses for knowledge. Kieran Read reads a lot. The highest achievers are always looking at how they can get better.
You have to be obsessed.
You can tell talking to Pat Lam that he is obsessed with being the best coach he can be. Simon Cron is the same. I know that Todd Louden is obsessed. Michael Hooper and Kieran Read are the same. Tom Carter.
If you are going to achieve success in your chosen field then some degree of Obsession seems to be a pre requisite.
Share what you know.
I asked Simon Cron what he changed at Northern Suburbs to help them win a premiership. His answers were incredibly generous and insightful. Pat Lam went into great detail on the leadership he has implemented at Bristol. I know for a fact that’s these two Podcast alone have helped a lot of people. Something i have noticed about all high performers is a willingness to share ideas. High achievers realise that by sharing with others they are in fact also helping themselves learn.
